I’ve been a member of Planet Fitness both in New York and now in St. Augustine for about 5 years. I have never had a problem.....until today. I normally go into the 30 minute workout area as there are some machines in there that are not available anywhere else in the gym. The area was roped off so I asked a staff member if I could go in to use a few of the machines. I was told I could not UNLESS I was going to do the full 30 minute workout. I explained the situation and the fact that many people enter that area and do not do the full 30 minute workout but she would not budge. I asked to speak to the manager Rob Pasquariello who basically stated the same thing. I said that at any other gym my membership allowed me to use any of the equipment and that perhaps I should explore other options. Rob stated I could cancel my membership anytime I wanted. I have been a loyal Planet Fitness customer for many years and have never been treated as poorly or unprofessionally as I was today. The manager acted very arrogantly as if I and my membership were expendable. Very poor business practice. I’m especially appalled at how vehemently they refused to allow me to enter the area since they never monitor its use and the area was empty when I asked if I could use it. Thank you Rob and Planet Fitness staff for showing your true colors. I will most certainly seek a new gym home.
